Material is an embodiment of the Earth’s ephemera. Fossils and the mantle of the earth rolled up and out over millennia become materials in my studio. I consider material history as a memory of time and process. Material memory is also changed by my hand and in phenomena that interrupts me: phenomena in the kiln, phenomena in the installation, and phenomena in the passing of time.

We are also a material of the Earth. We are temples of sediment to hold and passages to move along the memory of material and body. We filter ourselves through passageways, voids, and time. Our bodies are processed by physics and our own memories. Our memory preserves what we were before when we become something different in our own material.
